Increased Movement for Maratha Reservation: Another Protestant Suicide

July-25: Protests demanding for Maratha reservation has taken another turn with another protestor committed suicide.

Jagannath Sonawane, a member of Maratha community, tried to poison and commit suicide in protest demanding reservation. He was immediately admitted to the hospital but died without treatment.

Protesters who have been angry with Sonawane’s death and have blocked traffic in Mumbai and other places. Also they started stone pelting on parked vehicles.

On Monday, reservation activist Kakasaheb Shinde committed suicide by jumping to the Godavari river near Aurangabad. The protest was intensified. Three of them tried to commit suicide. Protest has turned to violence in the backdrop of another protester’s death.

The Maratha protesters also demanded a martyrdom status of Kakasheb Shinde and Jagannath Sonawane who committed suicide in the meantime.

A constable died and nine other policemen were injured in the stone pelting by protesters. Also many police vehicles were torched.
