NEW DELHI: The government has come forward to provide free Wi-Fi for all villages as adopted by the MPs across the country.
“Free wi-fi service will be provided to all villagers under the Samsad Adarsh Village Scheme”, State Home Minister Manoj Sinha said in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The Government has proposed to provide free Wi-Fi on every village panchayat in the country. The company plans to install 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots through BSNL to develop telecom in rural areas. All other agencies and private telecom operators will also be offering free Wi-Fi, he added.
The Government aims to link 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats using Fibre Network under Bharat Net Scheme. By the end of December 2017 (the first stage) 1 lakh gram panchayats have been connected. The minister said that high-speed internet will be provided by March 2019 to additional 1.5 lakh gram panchayats.
