In a significant move, hard-core Hindutva political party Shiva Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has supported the demand to provide reservations for Muslims in education.
Responding to ongoing Marathas agitation in Maharasthra seeking reervations, he said that apart from the Marathas, reservation demands of Dhangars, Muslims and other communities should also be taken into account. He assured that his party would support the state and the Union government on the issue.
With regard to reservation for Muslims, Uddhav asserted that if there were reasonable demands from the Muslim community, they should also be considered.
Welcoming the Sena’s stand, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Imtiaz Jaleel said that it is a positive development. Asking the BJP to take a cue from Thackery, he deplored that some BJP leaders, through their acts and utterances, are targeting Muslims. He accused that the Devendra Fadnavis-led was defying the Bombay High Court’s order by not implementing the 5 per cent quota for Muslims.
