The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today retained Jalgaon, while wrest the Sangli Municipal corporation in Maharashtra, giving a blow for Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena.
In the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation (SMKMC) in western Maharashtra, the NCP and Congress had joined hands against the BJP. In Jalgaon, Sena-BJP had an informal alliance.
In SMKMC, BJP won 41 seats, while Congress and NCP won 20 and 15 seats respectively. However, Shiv Sena could not open an account.
In Jalgaon, BJP won 57 seats, Shiv Sena 15 whereas NCP and Congress drew a blank. Earlier in 2013, the saffron party managed to claim victory only on 15 seats. However, this year, it won with a thumping majority.
