Aiming at taking advantage from Shiva Sena’s regular tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, both Congress president Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seems to be tilting towards Shiva Sena’s suprem Uddhav Thackeray.
As Shiva Sena has already declared that its alliance with BJP will not continue during 2019 polls and it would contest all seats on its own and moreover its MPs didn’t participated during voting on crucial no-confidence motion voting in Lok Sabha, the opposition parties are seen coming to a conlusion that Shiva Sena’s long association with BJP coming to a an end.
This was manifested when Rahul and Mamata sent their wishes to the Shiv Sena chief on his birthday. Before this, neither Sonia nor Rahul ever wished Uddhav on his birthday. The Congress leaders have changed tack as the Shiv Sena is said to be unhappy with the BJP, and Sena mouthpiece Saamana has been heaping praises on Rahul. For the last few days, Shiva Sena leaders have also been praising Mamata.
Rahul seems to be hoping that if the Shiv Sena breaks away from the BJP, it will be a great jolt for the latter in Maharashtra. Already NCP agreed for alliance with Congress. If Shiva Sena also joins them, it would be easy to check BJP in Maharashta with single digit number of Lok Sabha seats, In 2014 BJP and Shiva Sena together had won 41 of 49 seats, leaving 4 for NCP, 2 Congress and 1 others.
That is why Rahul wishes to Uddhav on his birthday, which was followed by a ‘thank you’ tweet from Shiva Sena leader Sanjay Raut receiving a political prominence. Mamata, who herself having Prime Ministerial ambitions, she may be hoping that if the need arises, she might seek support from Hindu parties also. That is why she has reached out to Uddhav.
However, they are forgetting that besides all problems in BJP-Shiva Sena relations, both are still sharing power at Centre, in the state and also in Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Shiva Sena is having discontent towards Prime Minister Modi, but not BJP and RSS. Many suspects its tirade against Modi was intended only to bargain more share of seats in alliance.
