Ahead of DMK Working President MK Stalin preparing to take up party leadership by holding party’s Executive Committee Meeting on Tuesday, his elder brother and `rebel’ leader M K Alagiri today claims that the party cadre supporting him to take up reins of his father M K Karunanidhi, who died last week. This has demonstrated a fresh power tussle between two brothers, which was practically settled by Karunanidhi by suspending his elder son Alagiri ahead of 2014 polls, from the party.
Since then, Alagiri maintaining a low profile, residing at Madhurai and keeping away form the family. But since his father was admitted in hospital he reached Chennai and maintaining cordial relationship with all family members. Alagiri has been miffed with Stalin ever since Karunanidhi named him the working president and has been making statements against his younger brother.
At tomorrow’s executive meeting Stalin is likely to be chosen as the new DMK chief. But hurriedly, today Alagiri reached Marina beach along with his family member and paying respects at his father’s grave virtually challenging succession of his brother Stalin by claiming to have the support of his father’s loyal cadres.
“I have come to express my grouse with my father. You will know what it is about. Kalaignar’s loyal supporters are with me. All the loyalists in Tamil Nadu are with me and they are supporting me. Only time will tell,” Alagiri added. However, Stalin is unlikely to feel threatened as his elder brother, who is not even a DMK member, does not enjoy any support among the party’s office bearers.
