Expressing happiness over progress of Polavaram irrigation project works, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the officials to make arrangements for gallery walk of spillway on September 3. He said more than one lakh people visited Polavaram site so far and thousands of people from all the districts are ready to visit the dam site.
Conducting 71st virtual review on progress of Polavaram project works at secretariat today, the Chief Minister said an action plan should be prepared to complete rehabilitation by December. He said officials should camp at Delhi to speed up the clearance of project designs. He said 57.41 per cent of project works completed so far including 44.23 per cent head works, 42.80 per cent main dam package, 77 per cent excavation works, 33.70 per cent concrete works, 61.75 per cent radial gate works, 94.20 jet grouting works were completed.
The Chief Minister made it clear that steps should be taken to supply water to 2 crore acres including one crore acres of horticulture. He said one cr acres should be covered under micro irrigation in 6 years. He advised the officials to take up digging of larger farm ponds to use the water during dry spell to save the standing crops through rain guns. He said steps should be taken to fill all the minor irrigation tanks.
The Chief Minister said 905.26 tmc of water available in the state including 380.68 tmc in reservoirs, 48 tmc in minor irrigation tanks, 476.58 tmc through soil moisture and 5.75 tmc in water conservation structures.
