The BJP leadaership in Karnataka seems to be in defensive as Defence Ministry is planning to shift Aero India, a biennial air show and aviation exhibition from Bengaluru to Lucknow.
With the strong lobbying of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Defence Ministry said to be forced to shift the same. TIll now all the 11 editions of air shows were held at Yehalanka Air Force Station, near Bengaluru, since 1996.
BJP leader sin Karnataka have been facing pressure from the public and also from their own cader to retain the same in Bengaluru. Union Minister for Planning and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda was forced to give assurance that he would take up the issue with the Central government and it is his responsibility as the air show is held in his constituency – Bengaluru North.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy also trying to fix BJP state leadership on this issue stating that the BJP was answerable on what grounds the show was being shifted from Bengaluru. Reacting strongly to the issue, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said,”We have been India’s defence hub since Independence, but under the NDA, we are constantly losing key defense projects and flagship programs.” He also asked Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to clarify her stand on the matter.
Union Minister Ananth Kumar in a damage control mood assured that he will meet Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and convince her that Bengaluru is the right place to hold the international air show. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah reminded Nirmala Seetharaman that she had responsibilities towards Karnataka, as the state sent her to the Rajya Sabha.
