Now it is clear that the DMK leadership is solidly behind its working president MK Stalin. This was revealed at the party’s Executive Committee meeting held today following the death of its supreme leader M Karunanidhi. Though the meeting was called to pay tributes to their departured leader, it turned to be significant amid power tussle between Stalin and elder brother Alagiri, who had indicated yesterday that the party cadre seeking his leadership.
Speaker after speaker at the meeting expressed their support to Stalin and urged him to take over theparty’s mantle. “Working President, lead us as the party President,” Duraimurugan said to cheers. Addressing the gathering, former Union Minister Baalu said in a quivering voice”the commander of the army is no more. Nobody has to tell who will be the next commander. Stalin has all the qualities to lead.”
MK Stalin got emotional while remembering party chief and his father Karunanidhi. “Party has lost our leader but I have lost the leader as well as my father. All of us should now work together to take the party to new heights,” he said. The party recalled Karunanidhi’s contribution towards social justice, industrialisation, upholding regional autonomy and his role in various national events. The leaders observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
