Vajpayee’s ashes immersed in Ganga

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes were immersed in the Ganga river at Har ki Pairi, Haridwar by family members and BJP leaders. Amid chanting of Vedic hymns, Vajpayee’s foster daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya emptied the urn carrying his ashes in presence of family members

Top party leaders including BJP president Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Uttarakhand counterpart Trivendra Singh Rawat were present.

Vajpayee’s son-in-law Ranjan Bhattacharya carried the urn through the narrow two kilometer stretch which the family and BJP representatives covered to reach the stage at Har ki Pauri from Bhalla College ground in the town. People had gathered on rooftops and both sides of the ghat to witness the ceremony.

Earlier a sea of humanity followed the flower bedecked truck that carried Vajpayee’s urn through the narrow 2 km stretch in reverence to the departed leader. The convoy started from Bhalla college ground and went to Har ki Pairi with a host of party leaders and family members in attendance. People were also seen standing on the balconies and rooftops to witness the slow passage of the convoy carrying the urn through overcrowded streets.
