Reaffirming his commitment to complete the Polavaram project as per schedule, Andrha Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today made it clear that the water will be released through gravity from Polavaram project by 2019. Stating that if the central govt extends cooperation, he should have completed the project much early.
He sought the cooperation of central govt to complete the project as per schedule as it is a national project. Stating that the state government has spent Rs 14,600 cr on the project so far, he said of this amount the centre’s contribution was only Rs 6,724 crore. He launched the project spillway gallery walk at a length of one km today along with Ministers, MLAs and MLCs, indicating the completion of the project as per schedule.
He completed the one km long and 5 mts length gallery, the longest in the country in one hour. The Chief Minister took part in the gallery walk along with his family members including his grand son four-year old Devansh. Earlier the Chief Minister unveiled a pylon marking the inauguration of project spillway gallery. It may be noted that the diaphragm wall works completed in a record time two months ago.
Later addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the gallery walk as a critical milestone in project works and said that the construction of diahphragm wall was also completed in a record time. He said 58.15 per cent of works completed so far.
The Chief Minister said that the Polavaram project spill way set a record as highest spillway in the world and the project would set major number of world records regarding in completion of the Pproject in a short time. He condemned the mudslinging activities of opposition parties instead of extending cooperation for early completion of the project.
