Indian star cricketer and women captain, Mithali Raj today cracked a ton against Sri Lanka in the third ODI of the ICC Championship in FTZ Sports Complex, Katunayake, Srilanka. She made an unbeaten 125 off 143 deliveries as she guided her team to a 253/5 in 50 overs.
This was Mithali’s highest score in ODI cricket and her century, the seventh of her career in the 50-over format, It took her to joint-fifth position in the all-time list of most centuries hit by a batswoman.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and asked India to bat first. The visitors were dealt an early blow with Jemimah Rodrigues sent packing for a duck. Mithali, walking in at No.3, then combined with in-form opener Smriti Mandhana to add 102 runs for the second wicket.
Mandhana eventually perished for a well-compiled 51 off 62 balls. Deepti Sharma, batting at No.6, was the other significant contributor with 38 from 44 deliveries. In reply, Sri Lanka were cruising to victory. The hosts got to 158/2 from 36 overs, with skipper Athapaththu batting on 85.
