Finance Minister Arun Jaitly welcoming Supreme Court verdict on Aadhar, said that it’s a historic verdict. The concept and legislation of Aadhaar has been accepted after judicial review, it is a welcome decision, he said. Stating that 122 crore people in India are now having Aadhaar, he said that we are saving Rs 90,000 crore every year because of Aadhaar. Historically, he said we have been bypassed by several technological advancements. “We can’t be allow ourselves to bypass by this great opportunity,” he added.
Accusing that Congress now cuts a sorry figure, he said that it was they who introduced this idea and didn’t know what to do with it. They decided there shall be an Aadhaar and this is the procedure through which it will be issued, but they did not lay out what it will be used for, he said. Aadhaar verdict a great step forward in use of technology in governance, says Jaitley.
However, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had said, “For Congress, Aadhaar was an instrument of empowerment. For the BJP, Aadhaar is a tool of oppression and surveillance. Thank you Supreme Court for supporting the Congress vision and protecting.” Sub-tweeting Gandhi’s tweet, BJP president Amit Shah said, “Yes, the Congress won today. Just like they won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.” The delinking of Aadhaar from private entities is a ‘slap on the face of BJP”, said Congress national spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
