IT raids on Revanth Reddy, ahead of poll campaign

Income Tax sleuths intesified raids and search operations in the house of Telangana Pradesh Congress Working President and hard critic of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, A Revanth Reddy, continuing from early hours of Thursday, raising political row. As the raids were started at a time, Revanth Reddy was about to launch poll campaign in his Konandal constituency on Thursday morning and he was summoned by IT officials to his house last evening, it was dubbed by opposition that raids are `politically motivated”.

The raids are continuing till late evening today. According to sources, till Friday evening, they have seied Rs 1 crore cash, besides several key documents indicating his illegal financial transactions and large number of lands acquired at various places. IT officials took Revanth’s wife Geeta to banks and checked bank lockers in the presence of bank officials, seized several documents. IT search operations were also conducted in the premises of his assocaites Kondal Reddy, Sebastian and Uday Simha.

Several Congress leaders alleged that the raids were plotted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister KCR, to prevent him from taking up active poll campaign in the state.

Though there was no official communication from the officaisl with regard to these raids, 70 pages note was circualted to the media last evening, listing illegal properties and financial transactions of Revanth Reddy, including through two foreign bank accounts. A week ago, Revanth Reddy alleged that both central and state governments are plotting to arrest him during poll campaign period.
