In a quick move, CBI Director Alok Verma has relieved special director Rakesh Asthana from all duties and powers, after the alter get securing order from Delhi High Court enabling him to avoid `arrest’ for now.
As per the court ourder, which directed to maintain status quo, Asthana may be remains as a special director of the CBI, but now cannot wield the power that is associated with his post, which ranks just below the director in CBI’s hierarchy.
This makes Asthana will no longer be involved in probing any of the cases that were with him. Asthana was heading a Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the CBI. This SIT is investigating several high-profile cases including those involving fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, meat exporter Moin Qureshi and former finance minister P Chidamabaram. Asthana will no longer be involved in these cases.
