As India remembers it’s only female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, on her death anniversary, several leaders including his grandson and Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to express their tributes.
‘Remembering Dadi today with a deep sense of happiness. She taught me so much and gave me unending love. She gave so much of herself to her people. I am very proud of her,’ Gandhi said on micro-blogging site.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid his rich tributes to India’s third Prime Minister, who was assassinated in Delhi in 1984.‘Tributes to our former Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary,’ the Prime Minister said.
In Morning, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, October 31 paid tributes to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary. They paid floral tributes at the slain leader’s memorial at Shakti Sthal, in New Delhi.
“Even if I died in the service of the nation, I would be proud of it. Every drop of my blood… will contribute to the growth of this nation and to make it strong and dynamic.” These words were spoken by Mrs Gandhi in her last public speech in Odisha two days prior to her assassination. These words still resonate even after 34 years of her death.
“Today we honour… the first female Prime Minister of India and one of the strongest leaders our country has seen,” the Congress party said. “Through her premiership, our nation saw great victory, incredible development and most importantly upliftment of all sections of society,” the party tweeted.
