Congress candidate’s winning of Bellary Lok Sabha seat, for the first time since 2004 polls, with a massive majority of more than 2 lakh votes, makes a bi achievement for Congress-JD(S) combination.
Karnataka by polls has demonstrated that the JD(S)-Congress alliance is working well on ground despite initial resentment among the workers post their tir-up. The alliance has ensured that BJP has lost its bastion of Bellary to Congress, which has won a prestige battle from there.
Bellary is said to be a fortress for mining-barn Gali brothers, who have been practically dictating BJP politics in the state. In the last elections, their close associated B Sriramulu had elected from here to Lok Sabha, with a majority of 85,000 votes.
He contested to Assembly in last May, as part of Galo brothers game plan of capturing Chief Minister position at some point of time, besides making him as Deputy Chief Minister, under BS Yeddyurappa regime, with a confidence that BJP will form the government.
Though Yeddyurappa failed to prove his majority on the floor of Assembly and forced to resign as Chief Minister, still he is confident sooner or later the Congress-JD(S) coalition government will collapse, paving the way for his coronation.
With a confidence that they are about to form government in the state, Sriramulu remained as MLA. Now, his sister Santha has contested in the by-poll. But winning of Congress’ V S Ugrappa with a big majority is said to be a big set back to political future of Gali brothers in the state.
