The prestigious Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project radial gates will be erected on December 17. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in a review meeting has directed the officials to speed up the works to launch erection of gates on December 17.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that main works of coffer dam, spill channel and approach channel will be completed by end of April. The main contractors of Polavaram project Navayuga firm informed the Chief Minister that they are going to set a world record in executing major quantity of concrete works per day. The Chief Minister said that officials should maintain records to establish world records in speedy completion of project works.
Earlier, the Chief Minister enquired the officials over caved in approach road of the project. The officials informed that there was no connection to the damage of approach road to the project. They said the approach road caved in due to recent rainfall and it was not related to the blasting works nearby the project.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to invite soil testing experts to examine the reasons for the damage of approach road. He asked them to submit a detailed report on the damage of the road.
The Chief Minister directed the Tourism officials to prepare proposals to make the Polavaram an international tourism destination. Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, principal secretary of water resources dept Sasibushan kumar, engineer in chief M Venkateswara Rao and others were present.
