JD(S) chief and former Prime Minister M HD Deve Gowda seems to be cultivating higher political ambitions, apart from to secure his son Kumaraswamy’s seat of power. Performing a housewarming ceremony at his New Delhi residence, 5 Safdarjung Lane, ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls, giving scope for political speculations.
The timing of the ceremony gaining prominent, as this was followed by his meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is on a mission to convince various opposition leaders on the need for non-BJP parties forums, in which Congress will be main player.Gowda occupied this house before he became Prime MInister in 1996 so it’s considered lucky by the family. Only on the previous day, Naidu visited Gowda’s son and Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy who declared that the 2019 Lok Sabha polls would be a repeat of 1996. In 1996, Naidu had played a pivotal role in bringing together parties under the Congress-backed alliance which made Gowda PM.
“By God’s grace, my physical and mental faculties are efficient. That may not be the only eligibility to become PM,” Gowda said before leaving for Dubai. After the meeting with Naidu, Gowda said that “Chandrababu Naidu has taken the lead and met several leaders to consolidate all secular parties to remove the NDA Government in 2019. He met me and HD Kumaraswamy today to work out further strategy.”
