The unexpected visit of former Chief Minister and state BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa to the resident of Congress trouble shooter and water resources minister D K Shivakumar has been raising political ripples in Karnataka. It may be recalled that Shivakumar was responsible for preventing Congress MLAs from defecting to BJP and also ensuring stability to Congres-JD(S) coilition government in the state.
Though he is not happy with the `cold’ treatment being extended by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, with out rewarding him for contributing for smooth functioning of the government, besides recent massive victory to Congress in Bellari by-polls, he is suspecting that efforts are going on to marginalise him.
Since last May assembly elections both Shivakumar and Yeddyurappa have been making wild allegations each other. Though Yeddyurappa claiming that his meeting was only to discuss some irrigation related issues in his home district, the extraordinary bondage displayed by Shivakumar on this occasion giving scope for several political specualtions.
With his son, Shivamogga MP, B.Y. Raghavendra and Sagar MLA, Hartalu Halappa in tow, Yeddyurappa said he met Shivakumar only to discuss about irrigation projects underway in Shikaripura taluk and two other taluks in the district. However, both the leaders were said to be had a closed doar meeting for 20 minutes, in which they have reportedly discussed on some political formulations.
Since a year both IT and ED officials have been conducting raids on Shivakumar properties and houses. His brother alleged that during such raids ED officials suggested to join BJP. As BJP is determined to win atleast 20 of 28 Lok Sabha seats in 2019 polls, many are suspecting that BJP high-command is making moves to `trap’ Shivakumar, known to be most resourseful Congress leader in the state.
Recently at a private function, senior BJP leder Prabhakar Kore expressed hope that Shivakumar would be chief minister of the state soon. Political circles are suspecting that Yeddyurappa visited his house only at the instruction’s of the party high-command.
Sensing BJP making moves to `catch’ Shivakumar, last week when Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi addressed a poll rally in Hyderabad, he was specially invited for the meeting and both the leaders urged him to take care of the coiliation government in the state. Rahul Gandhi also discussed with him seperately for 15 minutes on political scenario in the state.
