In a bitter counter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, today, said that Rahul is confused about his religion and caste. She was responding to Rahul’s comment that Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not now meaning of being Hindu.
For years, she said that the grand party presented him as secular leader but near polls when they realised that Hindus are in majority, they created this image. She further said that Congress claimed that Rahul Gandhi is a janeu-dhari (the one who wears Brahminical thread) Hindu, but I did not know he is so rich in knowledge that now he will teach us the meaning of Hinduism.
She responded hours later Rahul while interacting with the business community and professionals in Udaipur district ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly Election, questioned PM Modi’s knowledge of Hinduism. He asked, “What does the Gita say? That knowledge is with everybody; knowledge is all around you. Every living being has knowledge. Our PM says he is a Hindu but he doesn’t understand the foundation of Hinduism. What kind of a Hindu is he?”
She also took exception over former union finance minister P Chidambaram for targeting the ruling BJP over GDP growth rate data. The foreign minister said, “I’d like to remind Chidambaram that in UPA’s tenure IMF and World Bank listed Indian economy in the fragile 5, it was listed as one the economies that were on decline. Today these two organisations themselves call India the fastest growing economy.”
