Congress asks EC to probe against Amit Shah’s code violation

A high-level Congress delegation urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to probe against BJP president for violation of the model code of conduct in Telangana. The delegation comprising senior leader Kapil Sibal, MP Congress chief Kamal Nath and heal of the Congress legal cell Vivek Tankha.

Blaming Shah for the “blatant and egregious violation of the model code of conduct,” they said that the BJP president had deliberately made a false statement about Congress’ poll promises in order to polarise the voters in the poll bound state.

In a memorandum to the ECI, they also submitted video evidence of the four incidents. As per Congress claims, while campaigning in Amangal (Ranga Reddy district of Telangana) Amit Shah on December 2, stated that the Congress party will give free electricity to the mosque and churches if voted to the power, which is not true.

Mentioning a portion of Shah speech in the memorandum, Congress said in order to advance his political agenda, the BJP president had deliberately spread lies about Congress poll promises. According to the Congress Amit Shah said in his Amangal rally :

“The Congress also speaks about the reservation for the minorities in government contracts. It also talks about the separate hospitals for the minorities. I want to ask (Congress President) Rahul Gandhi, what would be the fate of the poor people who do not belong to the minority communities.”

Refuting this statement by Shah, the Congress said the party has not made any such promise. The party manifesto is available in public and it can be cross checked, emphasised the Congress leaders.
