Congress candidate from Kodangal and party’s Telangana working president A. Revanth Reddy, was detained and taken into preventive custody during early hours of today.
He was picked up by the Telangana police around 3 am from his Kodangal home, hours before the scheduled meeting of caretaker chief minister and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao in Kodangal.
“Around 3 am some people knocked on our door and broke open and forced themselves in. My husband and I were sleeping in the room along with our daughter. Are we terrorists that they should treat us like this?” , his wife Geetha asked.
The police said it was an arrest made on the orders of the Election Commission as Reddy had approached the people in his constituency, asking them to boycott the meeting by the TRS chief and hold a protest in the area.
Two days ago, Reddy said that Chandrasekhar Rao needed to apologies to the people of Kodangal Assembly constituency before he visited the region on December 4. He claimed that Rao had ‘ensured’ that Kodangal remained underdeveloped over the past four-and-a-half years.
Large number of police surrounded his house. His brother, other party workers and gunmen were also taken away by police. Later, they released gunmen. He was shifted to Zcherla police station.
