HD Kumaraswamy government in Karnataka has launched a new scheme `Prabhudha’ to extent financial assistance for the students of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) to study abroad. This scheme will facilitate over 400 students from these communities to study in reputed institutions abroad.
The Social Welfare department has earmarked a budget of Rs 120 crore, per year, for this scheme. Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameswaran, while launching the scheme, expressed hope that this will help a large number of talented youth from SC, ST communities, as they cannot afford education in foreign institutions.
This scheme makes provision to get scholarships for students going abroad for graduation in engineering, basic science, agriculture, medicine, law and other subjects.
“Dr BR Ambedkar had faced many problems when he was going abroad for studies and in repaying the loans after he returned to India. However, the Prabudha scheme has been launched to ensure that talented youngsters don’t face any problems,” said Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge.
