India’s shuttler PV Sindhu has won her maiden BWF World Tour Finals. Sindhu defeated Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the women’s singles final of the ongoing 2018 World Tour Finals event in China today.
Sindhu, ranked world number six, had been without a title throughout the calendar year in spite of appearing in five finals- including the World Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.
The Olympic silver medallist has emerged as the first player from India to win the BWF World Tour Finals, 14 career title and first season-ending title. After seven straight finals lost, she wins to beat Okuhara 21-19, 21-17
Sindhu lost an epic World Championship final to the Japanese last year. World No 6 Sindhu has lost a lot of major finals, including the Rio Olympics, two World Championships and the Jakarta Asian Games, to settle for silvers in the last two years.
