As soon as senior Congress leader Kamal Nath took over the post of Chief Minister in Madhya Pradesh, he signed the files related to farmers loan waivers, keeping the promise made by Congress in its manifesto.
Nath issued an order waiving off short-term loans of farmers. Farmers who had taken loans from nationalised and cooperative banks before March 31, 2018 will be eligible for the loan waiver, according to Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Rajesh Rajora.
Earlier, Governor Anandiben Patel administered his oath of office. The 72-year-old 9-time MP led the Congress to victory in the recently-concluded state Assembly polls. .No other minister took oath along with him. His appointment as come for sharp criticism from NDA leaders for his alleged role in the 1984 anti- Sikh riots.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, former prime ministers Manmohan Singh, H D Devagouda, Chief Ministers Chandrababu Naidu (AP), HD Kumaraswamy, DMK chief M K Stalin, NCP leaders Sharad Pawar, Praful Patel, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav were among those present at the event.
Three former BJP chief ministers – Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Kailash Joshi and Babulal Gaur – were also present on the stage.
