At least eight people were killed and 10 injured after 50 vehicles piled up on Rohtak-Rewari highway in Haryana due to dense fog conditions, earlier today. Expressing grief on the incident, Haryana Minister OP Dhankar said, “Compensation of Rs 2 lakhs will be given to the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh to those severely injured and Rs 50,000 to those with minor injuries.”
Several cars, tempo, trucks, and school buses were involved in the accident. The police officials have rushed to the spot and rescue operation is underway. The incident took place on Jajjar flyover at Rohtak-Rewari highway after nearly 50 vehicles piled-up.
For the past one week, a cold wave is sweeping in Punjab and Haryana. The fog has reduced the visibility level at most places in the region, including at Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Hisar, Karnal, Ambala, Bhiwani, and Sirsa.
Last year, around 25 cars were piled up on the Yamuna Expressway. The report had suggested that the car rammed each other due to dense fog in the area causing low visibility. Fortunately, the motorist travelling in the vehicle faced minor injuries. Earlier this year, similar incidents had taken place on NH 44 in which several people were killed.
