Mayawati, KCR to jeopardize Rahul’s game plan

Both BSP supreme Mayawati and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao seems to be on a mission to jeopardize Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s game plan to put single candidate against BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Both these leaders, besides West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banarjee are making every effort to dilute Rahul’s attempt for a ‘mahagathbandhan at national level, against BJP.

It may be recalled that in recently held assembly elections in three states, BSP has contested on its own. However, after the polls Mayawati extended support to Congress governments in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, only “to prevent BJP from forming it’s own government”.

lready, in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati going ahead in forming an alliance with Samajwadi Party and RLJD, ignoring Congress. Moreover, putting the plans of grand alliance of opposition parties on hold BSP has decided to contest on all 29 Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh. BSP vice-president Ramji Gautam, who is currently in Bhopal made the announcement, giving a jolt to ‘mahagathbandhan‘.

Congress leaders are worrying that BSP’s such moves will help only BJP by dividing anti-BJP votes. Adding salt to injury, now TRS chief KCR also on a mission to set up a Federal Front, with all regional parties. But, the leaders he is meeting are those who oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi or those who are keeping away with him.

Already he met Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnayak and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banarjee. Now he is in New Delhi planning to meet Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav. If KCR succeeded in his efforts, Congress feel that too will help BJP in a bigger way, dividing opposition votes. The BSP chief, who was working to form a third front of parties not allied with the BJP or the Congress, is most likely to find a common cause with KCR.

Last week, Mamata Banarji also made it clear there will not be any alliance with Congress in 2019 polls. That makes Congress to make a move for alliance with Left parties in West Bengal. BJP leadership is keenly observing these developments.  Any effort to dilute opposition’s consolidation against them, will automatically benefit in a bigger way.
