A senior BJP leader and former Karnataka minister Umesh Katti predicted today that the JDS-Congress coalition government in Karnataka will fall in the next 24 hours. Interestingly, he made this statement in Belgaum after a meeting chaired by BJP state chief and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.
He claimed that as many as `15 rebel Congress MLAs are in touch with them and they will quit so that to put an end to 6-month JD(S)-Congress coalition government headed by HD Kumaraswamy in the state. He also said that the BJP will form its government next week.
However, Yeddyurappa, who is known of waiting to become chief minister again and frequently predicting over collapse of the present government, downplayed it. He claimed that he is not interested in toppling the state government. “I have no desire to topple the government. We are in the opposition party. We will continue there,” he added.
After expansion of Kumaraswamy’s cabinet last Saturday, several Congress MLAs, who missed the berth said to be expressing their discontent over the government openly. Even Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was forced to warn such dissidence activity stating stern action would be taken.
Dismissing BJP claims, State Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao has challenged the BJP to topple the government if they have numbers with them. He dared Katti to resign from his MLA post if the government does not fall in the next 24 hours.
