POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN DISEASE is a relatively common hormonal and metabolic disorder seen in female of age group 18-40 year.

Every month about midway through the menstrual cycle (approximately 10-16 days of normal 28-day cycle) there will be release of ovum (egg) from either right or left ovaries. This is called Ovulation. The egg released by the ovary enters the fallopian tube to make its way towards uterus to form a lining inside uterus so to prepare for the fertilization. If no conception occurs this uterus lining as well as blood and other tissues shed during menstruation. In female suffering from PCOS sometimes there may be ANOVULATION (absence of ovulation) or these eggs instead of entering fallopian tube, it will remain attached on the surface of the ovary resembling itself as a liquid filled thin sphere of bubble or a cyst.
