The Income Tax Department (IT) authorities today carried out raids on the residences of four top Kannada film actors and three leading producers in a simultaneous state-wide exercise.
According to official sources, the raids are conducted into the premises of actors Shivaraj Kumar and Puneeth Rajkumar, sons of Kannada thespian late Rajkumar, and Yash and Sudeep.
The raids were carried out across 23 locations in the state and involved around 200 sleuths. ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh, C R Manohar and Vijay Kiraganduru are the film producers whose residences were raided, the officials said.
Nicknamed ‘Hat trick star’, Shivarajkumar is the son-in-law of former chief minister late S Bangarappa. ‘Power-star’ Puneeth Rajkumar shot to fame for his role as a child artist in the Kannada movie ‘Bettada Hoovu’ and had won a National Film Award.
In Tamil Nadu, the raids were conducted at over two dozen premises of food joints like Saravana Bhavan, Hot Bread, Anjappal and Grand Sweets spread in 32 locations in Tamil Nadu on charges of alleged tax evasion. Over 100 IT sleuths carried out the raids at the residences and offices of the directors of these food joint chains. These hotels serve some of the best south Indian delicacies, including cakes, pastries and sweets that are even shipped abroad, a senior official said.
