While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indicated to immediately convene the meeting of high-powered three-member committee, headed by him to decide the fate of CBI Director Alok Verma, later this evening, one of the member of the panel, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge deferred on the timing of the meeting.
It may be recalled taht the Supreme Court yesterday had conditionally reinstated Verma as the CBI chief and directed let the high-powered committee may decide his fate in a week time.
Apart from Modi and Kharge, CBI chief justice Ranjan Gogoi are member of this panel. However, Kharge has written a ltter to the government saying that he was busy with the Lok Sabha proceedings and hadn’t studied the Supreme Court’s order on Alok Verma. In his letter, he has asked for the meeting to be held on January 11, giving him enough time to study the judgment.
Meanwhile, Gogoi also decided to keep away from the meeting, as he him self delivered the judgement and on his behalf he nominated Senior Supreme Court judge, Justice AK Sikri to be part of the selection committee.
