After five years of her defeat as Delhi’s Chief Minister, veteran Congress leader Sheila Dikshit (80) has return to political limelight with her appointment as the chief of the Delhi Pradesh Congress, at a time the party has lost its glory in the national capital.
The three-time Chief Minister is known confident of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi. Her appointment was made after Ajay Maken resigned from the post, reportedly opposing party’s decision to allay with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
She will be assisted by three working presidents, Devendra Yadav, Rajesh Lilothia and Haroon Yusuf, announced Congress leader P C Chacko.
Congratulating Dikshit on Twitter, Maken said, “Congratulations to Sheila Dikshit for being appointed as the state Congress chief again. I got the chance to work and learn under her as parliamentary secretary and cabinet minister. I have full confidence that under her leadership, we will play the role of a formidable opposition against PM Modi’s and Arvind Kejriwal governments.”
Dikshit served as Delhi CM for three consecutive terms till 2013 when the Congress lost power. The change in party leadership in the national capital comes at a time when the Congress is leaving no stone unturned with the Lok Sabha elections just few months away.
