West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee today withdrew her state from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship healthcare coverage scheme, Ayushman Bharat. She accused that Prime Minister has been taking undue credit for this scheme for political mileague by writing letters to beneficiaries though the state government has been bearing 40 per cent of the cost.
“We are withdrawing from the Ayushman Bharat scheme. My state will not contribute 40% of the funds for the scheme,” Banerjee said at a public meeting in Krishnagar in Nadia district. “Centre has to pay the full amount if Centre wants to run the scheme,” she added.
She reasoned that the Centre is printing the picture of Modi in the official communication of the scheme for publicity. She alleged that the logo has also been designed to resemble the party symbol of the BJP.
