Pune police arrested Dalit activist, writer Anand Teltumbde, an accused in the Bhima-Koregaon case, last evening. On the previous day, the Pune court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea. citing that the investigating officer has collected sufficient material against Teltumbde.
Teltumbde, a professor at Goa Institue of Management, was arrested by the Pune police in the Elgaar Parishad case. According to Police, Maoists had supported the Elgar Parishad conclave that was held on December 31, 2017, and the inflammatory speeches there led to violent clashes at the Bhima-Koregaon war memorial the next day.
The prosecution had submitted an envelope with the printouts of electronic data proving ‘Teltumbde’ involvement in the case. Teltumbde is one of the seven activists whose houses were raided on August 28, 2018. The Pune police have arrested already four of the seven activists – Sudha Bhardwaj, P Varavara Rao, Vernon Gonzalves and Arun Pareira.
