At least five militants have been reportedly gunned down by the security forces after an encounter broke out in Kellam area of Devsar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district today. The house where militants were holed up has been blasted. The forces have recovered weapons and warlike stores from the militants hideout.
The encounter broke out at 6 am after a joint team of Police, Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation following a tip off about the presence of militants in the area. The fire fight ended at 12 noon as the security neutralised all five militants.
“Five terrorists have been killed. Weapons and warlike stores were recovered from the site of encounter,” army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site. Army and police officials said the militants were locals.
Bodies of the killed militants have been recovered, but the identity was yet to be ascertained. Heavy stone pelting by locals has injured four CRPF personnel. Search operation continues.
