A day after sealing seat adjustments with long-time allay Shiva Sena in Maharasthra, BJP today succeeded in clinching electoral deal with ruling-AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. After hectic negotiations, AIADMK leadership agreed to contest together with BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
AIADMK has officially sealed the alliance with BJP for the Lok Sabha polls in which the saffron party would contest five seats in the state. Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and Piyush Goyal addressed a joint press conference and said “BJP will contest five Lok Sabha seats as part of the mega alliance in Tamil Nadu.”
The BJP said it will support the AIADMK in the by-election for 21 assembly seats in the state. “We have agreed to contest under the leadership in the state, EPS (E Palaniswami and OPS (O Panneerselvam) and at the national level as an NDA under Narendra Modi,” Goyal said.
Goyal, the BJP’s Tamil Nadu in-charge, claimed that the alliance will sweep the state in 2019 and win all the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu (39) and Puducherry (1). Asked about the possibility of DMDK joining the NDA alliance, Goyal said he will meet party boss Vijayakant soon.
Earlier in the day, the AIADMK clinched a deal with the PMK, offering the Vanniyar-based party seven out of 40 seats, including one in the neighbouring union territory of Puducherry. PMK has been a vitriolic critic of both AIADMK and DMK alike until recently and joining hands with AIADMK after a gap of 10 years. Now, AIADMK will contest the remaining 27MP seats in the state. Meanwhile, it will also become part of BJP-led NDA.
