Karnataka rebel Congress MLA Umesh Jadhav resigns, likely to join BJP

Giving a shock to Congress leadership in Karnataka, its MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav, today, resigned from the party membership. He also resigned as MLA and submitted his resignation to the Assembly Speaker. The Chincholi MLA is set to join BJP.

The BJP has reportedly decided to announce him as its candidate from Kalaburagi constituency, which will be formally announced during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, later this week on Wednesday, to the constituency. Kalaburagi is presently represented by Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress has been in trouble since reports of a rift with the ruling ally, the JD(S), came up. Then, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy alleged that the BJP was luring the legislators by offering a bribe.

Last month, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader G Parameshwara also created a furore by alleging that he was denied the post of the chief minister three times because he belonged to a Dalit community. He added, “I reluctantly accepted the deputy CM’s post, which I was not interested in.”
