We don’t count casualties, only target, says Indian Air Force chief on Jaish camp strike

IAF chief BS Dhanoa refused to join in debate with regard to causalities during airstrike on JeM training camps in Balakot of Pakistan. He asserted that “We don’t count human casualties, we count what targets we have hit or not.”

He said that casualty figure in airstrike on Balakot camp will be given by government. MiG-21 used in dog fight with Pakistan F-16 is an upgraded aircraft with advanced weapons system. Death toll depends on the number of people present in target, IAF doesn’t count number of dead, he added.

He made it clear that he can’t comment on the politics. “ We are  happy Abhinandan is back. All required treatment will be given to Wing Commander Abhinandan. We don’t take chances with medical fitness of pilot; if Abhinandan is fit he will fly fighter jet,” He added.

He also dismissed with reports on the quality of Mig-21 Bison. He said that one is a planned operation in which you plan and carry out. But when an adversary does a strike on you, every available aircraft goes in, irrespective of which aircraft it is. All aircraft are capable of fighting the enemy.

Moreover, he said that the Mig-21 Bison is a capable aircraft, it has been upgraded, it has better radar, air-to air missiles and better weapons system, he added.
