BJPJ that making hectic efforts to emerge as an alternative political force in the forthcoming Odisha Assembly poll, has made former BJD veteran Baijayant Jay Panda as its national vice president and also spokesperson of the party.
He had joined BJP only four days ago, in the presence of BJP chief Amit Shah. Shah making this appointment today, said that this comes into immediate effect.
Panda, who won the Kendrapara seat consecutively in 2009 and 2014, is now likely to contest the fast approaching Lok Sabha polls from the same seat – but now on BJP ticket.
During both the previous elections the victory margins against Congress nominees have been more than two lakh – but the same was largely attributed to mass appeal of the BJD supremo and the state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
He was suspended from BJD last year in January for anti-party activities and later nine months ago he had quit the party. BJP is hoping that his popularity, besides his hold in BJD would help the party in the state to make a big leap forward.
