Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the political environment once again turned explosive with the death of YSRCP’s leader and former minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy (68) died in mysterious circumstances last night, in their native village Pulivendala of Kadapa district. Though it was reported earlier that he was dead due to heart attack last night, later after postmartum of the body, the police confirmed it was a murder. He is the uncle of leader of opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
He was two-time MLA, two time MP, one time MLC and was also a minister in K Rosaiah’s cabinet, after his brother Rajasekhar Reddy’s death in 2009.The post-mortem report has reportedly revealed seven injuries on his head, right hand and thighs. The police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Kadapa Police Additional SP B Lakshminarayana. The DGP R P Thakur has assigned CID chief Amit Garg to monitor probe into this murder.
Meanwhile, the police said the murder may have taken place between Thursday midnight and Friday 5 AM. Vivekananda lived alone and had returned home late on Thursday night after campaigning. In his police complaint, Vivekananda’s personal assistant said when he turned up at the leader’s house on Friday morning, his call went unanswered. After some time, servants and cook also came and together they found a door towards the back of the house lying open.
The complaint quoted the assistant as saying that they found Vivekananda in the bathroom with blood everywhere. “It was an unnatural death.”YSRCP Rajya Sabha member S Vijay Sai Reddy demanded a probe by CBI and said they have no trust with AP police. He accused that TDP leaders headed by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his minister-son Nara Lokesh were responsible for it.
