J&K Assembly elections likely after Ramzan

The Election Commission that has been facing criticism for not holding Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, along with Lok Sabha elections, is now making efforts to conduct at an earliest. According to sources, EC is expected to held Assembly polls immediately after Ramzan, before starting of Amarnath yatra, between June 5 and 30.

It is expected the assembly polls are likely to be  held in the state in 6 to 8 phases. Before finalising poll schedule, the EC is particular to ensure adequate security deployments. As Amarnath Yatra will begin from July 1, any how the poll scheduled should be completed by that time.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 10 had announced the dates for Assembly polls in four states – Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. However, the poll body did not announce the dates for the J&K Assembly elections citing security reasons
