Yeddyurappa diaries: Congress questions BJP over report of Rs 1800 crore in payoffs to top leaders

The Congress today questioned the BJP  referring to a sensational exposure against BJP accusing its leader BS Yeddyurappa claims of funding Rs 1800 to top leaders of the party. The Congress’s allegations were based on a news report published by The Caravan that claimed to have a diary with notes of Yeddyurappa having paid over Rs 1,800 crore to national BJP leaders such as Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkiri and Rajanath Singh as well as judges and advocates in 2009.

Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, has demanded answers from the BJP over the news report, asking if the allegations were true. The BJP is yet to comment on the new allegations. “Is it [the report] true or false? The diary with BS Yeddyurappa’s sign on it was with the Income Tax Department since 2017. If that is the case why did Modi ji and BJP not get it investigated?” he asked.

Surjewala also demanded to know who the “beneficiaries” of the money funnelled by Yeddyurappa were and said, “It is a fit case to be investigated by the newly constituted Lok Pal.” Randeep Surjewala said, “If there is no truth to this diary then why did the BJP not get an inquiry done on this. If this true then is this not a first-hand report of BJP’s corruption? Why is there no independent inquiry of this? Now there is also Lok Pal and other independent bodies in place. Chor chowkidar is answerable for this.”

Congress claims that in 2017 they had made a video recording of the same, in which Yeddyurappa and BJP leader Ananath Kumar Hegde were heard talking about the bribes.
