After replacing BJP stalwarts L K Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi from their respective Lok Sabha seats, advising them to withdraw from active politics, the BJP high-command is now said to be attempting to drop Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan also from electoral politics.

She is representing Indore constituency in Madhya Pradesh and a minister in Vajpayee’s cabinet also. As Indore goes to polls on Mary 19, the party is having some time to name its candidate from here.
She is the eight-time MP from here and due to her the constituency turned as a fortress to BJP. She failed to get assembly seat to her son in the recent elections. The main reason said to be to keep her out from electoral politics is her age.
Mahajan fondly addressed as Taai, who turns 76 in April. However, in Indore, people reckon her real age to be 78 years. The seat gaining prominence to BJP as Congress is said to be planning to field former union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia from here.
It may be recalled that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath as asked two major Congress leaders in the state, Digivjay Singh and Jhotiraditya Scindia to contest from two seats, where Congress failing to win for the last three decades.
Scindia has an extended followership in the Indore region due to his affiliation to the royal family, and in all likelihood, would garner Marathi votes from the region, which has been a stronghold of Mahajan. Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who has been asked to contest from tough seat Bhopal, could also ‘return the favour’ to Scindia by asking the party to let him contest from Indore, held by the BJP since 1989.
