Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala in addition to his traditional stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, has filed his nomination earlier today.
He reached Wayanad this morning in a helicopter from Kozhikode, here he was staying at a guest house after arriving in Kerala, last evening. He was accompanied by his sister and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi.
The Congress chief and his sister were greeted by a huge crowd in Wayanad and the duo held a road show before filing the papers. Rahul will also meet office bearers of the Congress and parties in the UDF later.
Tight security is in place in Wayanad district in view of the Gandhi siblings visit. While leaving the guest house in Kozhikode, the Congress chief was greeted by a huge crowd. He stopped his car and stepped out to greet party workers, who were standing there for hours.
Party workers believe that the announcement of Gandhi’s candidature in Wayanad has enthused the people of the constituency and made a major difference in other states, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. “It will get reflected in the voting,” they say.
