Thackeray says Rahul `unworthy’ of becoming Prime Minister

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray came out heaviely on Congress president Rahul Gandhi stating that he is `unworthy’ of becoming the prime minister of the country. Addressing a poll rally in Mumbai, strongly hitting out at him for promising to abolish sedition law.

He said, “Rahul Gandhi said Gareebi Hatao, but your grandmother gave this slogan. That slogan has come true for you, not for the people. You made a fool out of us, cannot do it again…Rahul Gandhi says repeal Article 370. Will you give your nation in the hands of an anti-national and unworthy person?”

Earlier on April 8 alo, the Sena chief, while addressing an election rally at Kalmeshwar in support of Shiv Sena’s Ramtek constituency candidate Krupal Tumane, had said, ‘If Rahul Gandhi thinks he will come to power by supporting traitors, we will not let it happen.” Further, he asked the public, ‘Do you agree with this? (Congress manifesto)…’ while adding that ‘Anyone who commits treason should be hanged’.

However, assuring that they will define what actions of an individual attract sedition and such care will be taken to frame anyone, he made it clear that they will not tolerate scrapping the sedition act.

Notably, the Congress party in its manifesto has promised to remove the sedition law to give a ‘fillip to freedom of expression’ in the country. “Omit Section 124A of the IPC (that defines the offence of ‘sedition’) that has been misused and, in any event has become redundant because of subsequent laws”, the manifesto says.
