Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra seems to be preparing to contest against Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency. Congress party sources indicates that the party has already started preparations for her contest.
Last month, it was speculated that she may contest from her mother Sonia Gandhi’s constituency Rae Bareli. Till now, the SP-BSP also didn’t announce their candidate for Varanasi. It is yet to be revealed whether they would put up their candidate, in case Congress decides to field Prinyanka Gandhi. In Uttar Pradesh, though SP-BSP ruled out any alliance with Congress, they are not contesting against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, in their respective constituencies.
Earlier in March, Priyanka had sent ripples across the political spectrum with her reply to party workers’ request to contest LS polls from her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli. Responding to them, she asked, “Why not Varanasi
Priyanka had also said that she will contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections if the party leadership asks her while adding that she has been given the key task of strengthening her party in the state. “If my party asks me to contest the polls, I will definitely do so. But my personal wish is to work for the party’s organisation as a lot of work needs to be done,” the Congress leader had said at a media interaction in Lucknow.
