BJP is fielding Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan from Gorakhpur parliamentary seat, from where earlier Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had won five times and BJP was defeated last year in by-poll by SP-BSP joint nominee Praveen Nishad.
However, sitting Gorakhpur MP Praveen Nishad, who had joined BJP last week, will contest from Sant Kabir Nagar constituency. The BJP dropped Sharad Tripathi, who had beaten a local BJP MLA with shoes, from here.
Praveen Nishad is the son of Sanjay Nishad, founder of the Nishad Party which is now in alliance with the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP today announced a list of seven candidates from Uttar Pradesh. With these names, the party has so far announced candidates for 420 Lok Sabha seats for the seven-phase elections which started on April 11 and will continue till May 19.
