Kanimozhi flays IT raids, asserts BJP cannot prevent her success

DMK leader and its Thoothukudi candidate Kanimozhi took severe exception to income tax official’s raid on her house last night, just hours after end of campaign period and two days ahead of polling and asserted that BJP cannot prevent her success.

After IT-officials found nothing objectionable in her house, she lamented that it was anti-democratic, deliberately planned and tested and no documents have been seized. The raids gains significance as it comes in the wake of the election in another LS constituency, Vellore, being cancelled over cash haul. All the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu goes to poll tomorrow.

“They want to intimidate us through this. They have come to stop elections in Thoothukudi. DMK volunteers will be working with more enthusiasm,” she added.

According to officials sources that IT officials resorted to raid on the information given by local state government officials, alleging “lots of cash” was stashed on the first floor of the house. During raids, Kanimozhi was present and she cooperated to the officials.

During the search, DMK supporters gathered outside the house and staged a protest, raising anti-PM Modi slogans.Kanimozhi is the sister of DMK chief M K Stalin.

Reacting to the raids, Stalin said, “BJP candidate Tamilisai Soundarajan’s premises have crores and crores of rupees kept there. Why no raids there? Who will take action? Modi used I-T department, Central Bureau of Investigation, judiciary and latest in the row is Election Commission of India to interfere in the electoral process.” He added, “They are doing this because of the fear of losing.”
