Actor Sunny Deol today joined BJP in the presence of Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman at BJP headquarters in New Delhi. Sources said Deol may be fielded from Punjab’s Gurdaspur or Chandigarh, the seat held by late actor Vinod Khanna.
The 62-year-old actor had met BJP president Amit Shah last week amid speculation that he may contest from Amritsar or Gurdaspur. Deol’s father and veteran actor Dharmendra had also contested a Lok Sabha poll and won from Rajasthan’s Bikaner in 2004. He has made a few appearances in 2019 Lok Sabha elections to campaign for his wife Hema Malini who is contesting from Mathura
Another new star face of the BJP, cricketer Gautam Gambhir, held a roadshow in Delhi today before filing his nomination for the Lok Sabha polls. Gambhir, who has been fielded from east Delhi, said: “I really want to contribute something to the country and whatever our Prime Minister has done in the last five years, I want to take that legacy forward.”
Meanwhile, BJP MP Udit Raj removes ‘Chowkidar’ title from his Twitter handle. Hinting to resign from the party, he tweeted, “I am waiting for a ticket if not given to me I will do goodbye to the party.”
